The AKC licensed parent club for the breed
In 1979, a small group of dedicated Havanese fanciers assembled for the purpose of forming a national breed club for the Havanese, the Havanese Club of America. One of the goals was to seek AKC recognition for our breed. At that time, there were nine members and the Havanese was considered a “rare” breed. Today the HCA has about 400 members and the Havanese is a member of the Toy Group with full recognition by AKC.
